Second Season of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid

Genre(s): Slice of Life, Comedy, Fantasy, Seinen
Age-Appropriateness: 13+ (Suggestive themes)
Platforms: Crunchyroll, Hulu
Episodes: 13
TheAwersome Rating: 8.1 / 10 (Still very good, some aspects rehashed)
Premise: The Kobayashi household is as busy as ever with Tohru always finding ways to “become the best maid” and Kanna determined to be the best elementary school student. Just as this chaos begins to feel mundane, however, a new dragon, Ilulu, comes to town sickened that Tohru has taken in with humans. Despite challenging Tohru to a death match, she gets intrigued at Kobayashi’s ability to befriend and understand dragons and instead chooses to observe what it is that makes humans special.
TheAwersome’s Thoughts: I’ll be honest, it’s been just over three years since I watched this, so my details are more than a bit rusty. What I do remember, however, is that this season does a good job delving into deeper character backstory and development, specifically between Tohru and Elma in that signature “I’m having more feelings about this than I thought I would” kind of way. The Oppai jokes more prevalent and less comfortable (apparently Lucoa wasn’t big enough?) so there’s that to deal with, and some of the comedy is based on the same reverse Isekai premise, so it might feel a bit rehashed from the first season. Again, it’s been a hot minute.
TLDR: You’ll like it if you liked the first season for sure, but there’s definitely “Anime bullshit.”
You’ll likely enjoy this if you enjoyed:
- The first season of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid
- The Reverse Isekai of The Devil is a Part Timer
- The “Learn to human/adult” aspects of most KyoAni works
