Wakakozake

Genre(s): Food

Age-Appropriateness: 13+ (Alcohol in every episode)

Platforms: Crunchyroll

Episodes: 12 (Each is 2 minutes long)

TheAwersome Rating: 7.8 / 10 (Short enough that you don’t feel cheated even if food anime isn’t your thing)

Premise: Murasaki Wakako is a 26-year-old woman who loves nothing more than relaxing with good food and drink. After work she strikes out on her own to find whatever she’s craving, trying new places. Her focus is mostly based on the pairing of the Japanese foods with drink.

TheAwersome’s Thoughts: This is a nice snack anime right here (puns!) both in content and in length. It feels like watching an animated web-comic of a food blog, which I think is how it started? This is a great anime for people wanting some good ol’ fashioned anime food porn, but the entire focus is only the food, nothing else. It’s fun to get an insight into what kinds of Japanese foods exist that you don’t usually see in American restaurants or even in other anime really.

There is a live-action drama series of the same name, but Harbour says it’s pretty lackluster and from what I’ve watched I agree. First off, the episodes are a full 22 minutes, but not much more gets covered. It’s just awkwardly watching a woman eat and uh.. ‘enjoy’ the food quite thoroughly. Don’t really recommend it.

TLDR: A cute collection of shorts that explore the joys of various Japanese bar foods and their recommended drink pairings.

You’ll likely enjoy this if you enjoyed:
