Tanaka-kun is Always Listless

Genre(s): Slice of Life, Comedy, Cozy

Age-Appropriateness: 7+ (Maybe some comical violence or language?)

Platforms: Crunchyroll

Episodes: 12

TheAwersome Rating: 7.5 / 10

Premise: Tanaka is a high schooler whose entire motivation is to relax and not have to put effort into anything. Constantly tired and lacking energy, he’s content to just let anything happen, so long as it doesn’t require effort on his part. This becomes a problem when a very energetic student is enthralled by his listlessness and demands he take her on as an apprentice.

TheAwersome’s Thoughts: Are you wanting an even LESS stressful slice of life show? Here ya go! I would usually watch an episode or two of this show before going to bed, and it really gets you in a sleepy mood. Not an “I’m tired, this is boring” kind of mood, but a comfortable blanket and hot cocoa type sleepy. It’s paced very slowly with very low-stakes plotlines but leaves you happy. Due to Tanaka’s lack of enthusiasm for basic things like communication, this show is full of farcical misunderstandings that make for a good time. This show is great if you’re coming off from other particularly high energy/emotion/drama shows or simply don’t feel like getting involved deeply in an anime. Tanaka-kun will be your rebound that won’t hurt you or be offended that you leave him for others. He’ll just entertain you with his dry charm and be on his way. Or rather, have someone carry him away because walking is too hard.

TLDR: This is second only to Laid-Back Camp in coziness. A delightfully dry, low energy comedy with a strong, subtle, and wholesome humor that’s great to watch before bed.
