Spin-off of Working!! (Wagnaria!!)

Genre(s): Slice of Life

TheAwersome Rating: 5.7 / 10 (If you’re really wanting more Slice of Life, watch it I guess?)
Premise: Same premise as the original Wagnaria series, we follow the employees of a (different) Wagnaria restaurant in their day-to-day happenings. Again, the staff all come with their quirks, be it absolute stoicism, sadism, the ability to see and talk with ghosts, or the ability to nearly kill people with chocolate so bad they literally commune with St. Valentine at the pearly gates (stained glass windowed halls in this case).
TheAwersome’s Thoughts: This one has some fun moments, but if you watch this after the original series you will most likely be disappointed. The characters are pretty two-dimensional, really lacking much depth or development. The “development” that does happen feels forced and out of character. I feel like someone at the studio watched the original series and got so fed up with the Slow Burn pace that they said “Screw it! I’ll make my OWN Working!! Anime, with Blackjack and hookers!” Okay, maybe not the blackjack, but one of the employees does work as a Host, so that’s a mild flavor of hooker, I guess? Anyway, the pacing in WWW.Wagnaria is super rushed. There were two romances in the original that took three seasons to develop and have a satisfying payoff. There are three and a half in this series that they cram into one season, and I honestly only kind of cared about one of them (the chocolate maker). It’s a solid meh. There are some funnies in it, but I didn’t really care about the characters much. The main two a little bit, but few are really “likable”.
TLDR: It keeps a similar premise to the original Wagnaria series, but with new characters, more relationships, and it all feels terribly rushed.
You’ll likely enjoy this if you enjoyed:
- The relationships in Blend-S
- The cliche anime moments and scenarios of Bokuben
